STICKEL, Donald

1943 - 2024

It is with heartfelt sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Don on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Born in Welland on August 24, 1943, Don leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn and their devoted son, Mark.

Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Doris Stickel and his sister Shirley (the late Rolly) Belaire; Don is survived by his nephew Brett (Linda) Belaire and niece Sherry (Bob) Barna and their families. Also left to mourn Don’s passing is his sister-in-law Joan (the late Fred) Roblin and his brother-in-law and cherished friend John (Patti) Hozack and their families. A dear uncle, Don treasured his relationship with nieces Debbie, Melissa and Jessica as well as his nephew Fred.

A dedicated employee of The Ford Motor Company’s Glass Plant in Niagara Falls, Don retired with thirty years of service and also proudly served his community for many years as a Volunteer Firefighter out of Station 6, Niagara Falls.

Don and Marilyn spent many years at their cottage on Mistinikon Lake where they shaped countless memories with family and friends. It wasn’t unusual to spot Don at “the landing” greeting visitors to the lake and raising a beer to their arrival. It was this outgoing charisma that earned Don the moniker Mayor of Stickel Back Bay. After retirement, Don and Marilyn made Matachewan their permanent home and enjoyed many years in this little piece of northern paradise.

Not to be easily forgotten, Don’s passing on a leap day will forever hold a special place in our hearts and, as per his request, cremation has taken place.

Always remembered, always loved.

So sorry to read about Don’s passing! You guys made a wonderful couple. There was a lot of fun and joy in your life together. I have fond memories of us working together at East Main and Scholfield and Don and Mark stopping in. I was happy to read you ended up moving up north permanently. I know how you loved your time up there over the yrs vacationing. It sounds like Don never lost his great sense of humour. Although it has been a long time since we’ve seen each other, the obit made it feel like only yesterday.
May all of your great memories bring you comfort at this difficult time.

Hugs
