PARISIEN, Hélène

1948 - 2019

Her loving family announces the passing of Hélène Dodd due to brain cancer on September 25, 2019

Born Hélène Lucienne Parisien on January 26, 1948 Helene was – first and foremost – a grandmother, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend. Her career as a teacher touched the lives of her many students, whether they were English speaking, French speaking, bilingual or following her French immersion teaching. She was an avid reader and nature enthusiast. But her values put family and relationships above all else.

Hélène is survived by her children Christine Seppala (nee Dodd) and her husband Eric Andrew Seppala, Brigitte Dodd and her life partner Lisa Boese, and her two grandchildren William and Norah Seppala along with her mother Thérèse Parisien, sister Gisèle, her brother Claude and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is also survived by friendships and by causes that she put her time, resources and energy into that are too numerous to count.

We would like to thank the staff and volunteers at La Maison Des Collines in Wakefield, Quebec for their dedication, expertise, work and incredible care for Hélène during her illness.

We will miss Hélène beyond measure. We are hopeful that she now goes to join her father, Rolland Parisien, and her brother Gilles, who predeceased her, and take solace in the knowledge that her spirit lives on within us and that her energy, so abruptly called away from us, was urgently needed elsewhere in the universe.

A private celebration of life is planned at LA COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS, 95 Cité des Jeunes Boulevard in Gatineau (Hull sector) on Monday, October 14 from noon to 3 pm for family and friends. We also welcome everyone to post memories and thoughts via the COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L’OUTAOUAIS’ website www.cfo.coop  and ask that you consider making a donation to La Maison Des Collines or Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in honour of Hélène.

I am so sorry for your loss. When we taught together at the Senior El. and at Bancroft Public, we shared many laughs and good times. I remember your mother with a great sense of humor and much compassion. She will be missed.

to all of Helenes"\ family and friends and especially to her daughters Brig and Christine, both whom I know.

I had the great, great honour of being close to Helene in Bancroft during her teaching time here ...we were good friends, colleagues, after school coffee drinkers and she introduced me to Dissarno !!!!! ....between l989 and l998..She gave me my first long term supply teaching job ....(and boy I needed the money as no one knew me here) as she was having her teeth fixed...I've never forgotten her trusting me with her beloved class..(as all of her classes were to her)...I loved her energy, her unique style of 'being' and her fabulously creative teaching....we laughed and laughed...I love how she called particularily irritating people....mostly administration and other staff as "special"...then we would laugh . At the time she moved away, I finally got a full time job ...and so we drifted....I always meant to go to visit her...and we talked often about it.....I didn't know that she had had such a bad accident and I sure didn't know about the cancer....My sorrow since reading the paper yesterday has been so deep. I think about the wonder of her every minute......and I smile or cry......it's all ok now for her tho...isn't it.....What an absolute privilege to have had those 10 years with this woman...she will be with me always. Love Heather.
