Passed away at the Perley & Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre in Ottawa on November 12, 2018. Wife of the late Clinton Smith. Predeceased by her brother Donald and sisters Marguerite (Douglas) Grapes and Melba (William) Horricks. Survived by her children Barry (Ruth), David (Marianne), Beverly (Russell), 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Resting at the Cass Funeral Home, 15 Station St. Sawyerville, QC. Where visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow with Rev Mead Baldwin officiating. Internment in Eaton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sawyerville United Church, 42 Main St N, Sawyerville, QC, J0B 3A0 or Eaton Cemetery Association, P.O.Box 934, Cookshire-Eaton, QC, J0B 1M0.

Mrs. Smith was my first piano teacher! I remember my lessons (more than 40 years ago!) I remember the blue and red stars and striving to play so that I received the stars! I remember getting off the bus at the farm and the recitals in your living room too. Such sweet memories. Your mom was a beautiful lady - calm and sweet. I can still remember her laugh too! I remember one year we attended a farm show at your farm. There was an auction and some contests and showings too. Beautiful memories of your mom and dad and our lives back then. Truly sorry for your loss but wanted to express how sweet your mom was and how she shaped my life early on with her love of music! I taught for over 25 years and she started it all! I was saddened to hear of the loss of your mom.

Both your mom and dad meant a lot to me and were both were very very influential in my life growing up ----I started taking piano lessons from grade 2 on --- and when I turned 12 I got hired to help with jobs around the farm --- haying mostly and every now and then the dreaded words “ stone picking” would be used 
I remember every week after my piano lesson was finished, I would wait in the kitchen while my sister had her lesson --- sometimes comic books would have been retrieved from the basement stairway closet, and left on the chair for me to read --- and I always hoped they would include one of the cowboy comics --- if I shut my eyes, I can still see those books and savour the thrill of reading them!
I also have very fond memories of some hot hot summer days unloading bales of hay in the mow – and being tickled pink when, every now and then, David or Barry would be home and they would help us unload ---- those loads seemed to take no time at all with the extra hands!
Similar to Carol, I remember the Shorthorn Association coming to your farm for 2 days –I especially enjoyed watching them judge the cattle… It seemed like those 2 days had as big an impact on our little community as if it was the International Plowing match.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much my life was shaped by the time I got to spend at your parents farm – except to say thank you --- for the way your parents helped a little kid feel welcomed and needed around the farm…

The memories are as vivid as if they’d happened yesterday!
And they are precious --- and will last a lifetime.
I’m so very sorry for your loss and I will be praying for you!
