ZAVERUCHA, Anna

1923 - 2017

In loving memory of Anna Zaverucha of Englehart who passed away on January 11, 2017 at Teck Pioneer Residence , Kirkland Lake with family by her side. Predeceased by her husband John, her parents Andrew and Anna Mislan, her brother John (late Fran), her friend and companion of many years, Mahlon Leverre, She is survived by her children, Walter (Pat) of Sudbury, Linda Field (Fred) of Englehart , Jean Overell ( Brian Andrews) of Mississauga; grandchildren, Greg Zaverucha (Kate), Rachel Zaverucha (Francois), Andrew Zaverucha (Alannah), David Field (Lyndsay), Michael Field, Marcedes Andrews-Overell, John-Rudy Andrews, and her precious great grandchild, Owen Zaverucha,. Also by her sister, Isabel Schryer (late Jim) Sault Ste Marie, and many nieces and nephews. Anna was born in Czechoslovakia and came to Canada with her family when she was 10 years old. She lived in Blind River and then in Sault Ste Marie. She had various jobs, working at a glove factory and during the war years she worked in the steel plant in the Sault. She married John Zaverucha in 1948 and moved to a farm near Cochrane. Anna was a working woman, at home looking after her children, looking after the family store and helping with the farm work. They also grew prize winning potatoes for commercial sale. She always grew her own vegetables, her garden was the envy of many. Enough to freeze and process for the winter months. And lots of sauerkraut. She along with other women of the day always made bread, (no store bought stuff for us) made quilts, hooked rugs, knit sweaters and socks. After her husband passed away in 1966 she moved away from the farm., and proceeded to another career. When she was in her forties she went to college and trained to be a Registered Nursing Assistant. After graduation she nursed at Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane before retiring to Englehart where she lived for over 35 years residing in her own home until she was 92. One of her major hobbies was reading and keeping up with the news and current events of Canada and the world, always being knowledgeable and having an opinion. Anna was a member of the Anglican Church both in Englehart and Cochrane, and worked as a member of the Anglican Church Women for many years. She was also a member of the Northland Pioneer Club and made many wonderful friends there. Anna’s family would like to express deep gratitude for the wonderful and compassionate care given to her during her stay at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake.
