Kenneth Middlemiss,

KENNETH MIDDLEMISS,

2021

Dr. Kenneth Chisholm Hamilton Middlemiss It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family announces the passing of Dr. Kenneth Chisholm Hamilton Middlemiss on Wednesday September 5th, 2012. He was surrounded by family and friends at Teck Pioneer Residence where he had resided for the past 10 months and was extremely well cared for, and respected. Ken was predeceased by the love of his life Gloria (nee Ross). He is survived by his two children Laura (Ric) and Duncan (Marlene) and five cherished grandchildren (Alison, Leah, Scott, Karleigh, and Sarah). Ken was born in Glasgow, Scotland February 24th, 1928 to Susan and Kenneth. He came to Canada and attended The University of Toronto School of Medicine graduating in 1951. He then returned to England where he spent two years in the Royal Navy achieving the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander. Following his military service, he returned to Toronto to specialize in the fledgling field of radiology. It was here that he met Gloria. Ken discovered and fell in love with the North on a summer job where he was travelling the Highway #11 corridor visiting St. John Ambulance First Aid Posts. He and Gloria were married November 16, 1957 in Toronto where Ken was practicing radiology. It was in 1960 that he heard of an opportunity to practice in Kirkland Lake and service the hospitals along Highway #11 from Hearst through to Haileybury. He retired in 2006 after 46 years of tireless professional practice from the Kirkland and District Hospital. Ken was a well respected member of the community who was known for his dry Scottish sense of humour, his selflessness, and his love of his family. His love of fast cars, airplanes, travel, and Lake Kenogami fulfilled his desires. He had respect for all people and possessed a genuine desire to help heal. A Memorial Service to be held at St. Peter’s On the Rock Anglican Church (7 Kirkland St.) on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in Ken’s memory may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind – C.N.I.B. (1929 Bayview Ave. Toronto, ON. M4G 3E8 or cnib.ca) or to the Kirkland & District Hospital Foundation (P.O. Box 3000 Kirkland Lake, ON. P2N 3P4). Many years ago when I was a young technologist in Kirkland Lake, Dr. Middlemiss would pick me up at home and deliver me to work at Englehart Hospital on the weekends. The trips were enjoyable but so fast that even the OPP could not catch us! I remember his kind nature and enjoyed e-mailing him during his final years.

Dr. M was a friend, a mentor, a confidant, and someone I have admired and respected since I first met him at the age of 18 as a student. He was my greatest supporter through all my career developments. I have so many happy memories as student, as a technologist and most of all the happy memories of the years and years of 5:30 am mornings in Englehart performing cases and reading films. He was a wonderful man. Heaven is a better place today. I will miss him. Karen

Dr. M is a man no one ever forgets. I have known him for over 45 years and over that time, he was a mentor and a friend that I highly respected. I will never forget how kind he was to me as a radiology student and then over the many years working with him in New Liskeard and Haileybury. Duncan, Laura and family, you have my sincere condolences on the loss of a great man. Heaven has a new angel to watch over all of us. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the service on Thanksgiving weekend but please know that my thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. – Sue Marietti

They called him “Dr. M”; I only saw Ken once he was in TPR but its obvious from his nickname that the community had a genuine love and respect for the doctor.

I worked with Ken at KDH. Some radiologists are distant and hard to talk to about patients. Not Ken, he was always glad to have a look for you anytime of day. I haven’t seen him since 2007 but I have thought of him often and will miss him.

Dan Eickmeier, le 1 mars 2021
