Gagnon, Fernand

GAGNON, Fernand

1937 - 2025

Fern was the cherished life partner of Judith Smith (Viau) for an extraordinary 50 years. A devoted father, he will be deeply missed by his children Michel, Guy, Diane, Elaine (Jacques), and Nicole (Denis), as well as his stepchildren Danny (Charleen), Kelly (Tracy), and Jill (Shawn). His strength, wisdom, and unconditional love will live on in their hearts.

Fernand’s legacy continues through his many grandchildren (19), great-grandchildren (21), and great-great-grandchildren (2), who will forever cherish his memory.

He was predeceased by his mother, Florence Gagnon (nee Lamoureux), his father Oscar Gagnon and his step mother Evelyn Gagnon, and by his six brothers: Marcel, Royal, Raymond, Gerry, Gary, and Roger. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings, Béatrice and Eddy (Carmen).

Fern proudly served the City of Ottawa for 37 years and was a member of the Reserve Army for nine years. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time in the great outdoors.  His presence brought comfort, his hands brought help, and his laughter brought joy.

It was Fern’s wish that a Celebration of Life be held in Carlsbad Springs. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 20 at 1:00 PM at the Carlsbad Community Centre, 5556 Piperville Road, Carlsbad Springs, ON.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fern’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

I had the incredible experience of calling Fern my grandpa for 30 years! Katie, my wife, was lucky enough to call him grandpa for 5. What an amazing time we all shared together, they’re truly some of our most cherished memories. Grandpa will be in our hearts forever, and we’re sending you all our love and condolences to you Nanny.

With lots of love,
Katie & Nick

Grandpa Fern was a wonderful man, and I am thankful for a lifetime of memories with him. He was always there to watch my hockey games, teach me about fishing and cars, and make me laugh, reminding me to take a moment and enjoy life. I also feel so blessed that my wife and daughters were able to make lasting memories with (Great) Grandpa Fern. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. We love you, Grandpa!
