SCALLY, Francis

1934 - 2024

Francis Ambrose Vincent Scally, aged 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

Frank, as he was known to everyone, was born on December 5, 1934, in Dublin Ireland. He is survived by his wife Theresa (Legault) and three children, Sean (Kim), Lauri (Clyde) and Lian Wright (Steve). He also leaves behind grandchildren Eddie, Darcy, Matt, Conor, and Kelsey, as well as great grandchildren Jayce, Sabella and Georgia. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Scally and extended family in Ireland. Frank is predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth Scally, as well as many brothers and sisters.

Filled with a deep sense of adventure, Frank boarded a ship to Canada in the late 1950s. Arriving in Halifax, he travelled to and lived in Toronto for a while, eventually finding his way to Northern Ontario. It was in Kirkland Lake that he began to build a life and a family after meeting Theresa while visiting a friend at the hospital where she worked. Frank had a long and fulfilling career with the Town of Kirkland Lake and developed years-long friendships with many in the community. Frank loved to travel, taking many family trips throughout Canada and the US, with a special fondness for the Maritimes as it reminded him so much of home. In retirement, Frank and Theresa returned many times to Ireland to reminisce and spend time with family.

A true Irishman, Frank had great wit and charm, loved to tell stories and was known to crack a few off-colour Irish jokes. Most of all, Frank had great passion for the music of his beloved Ireland. As a devoted member of the then KL Canadian-Irish Club, he loved to delight many with songs that pined for the country he left behind and told stories of Ireland, both mythical and true.

The Scally family is forever grateful to the amazing staff at Teck Pioneer Residence (TPR) and extend heartfelt appreciation for all the love and care he received there over the last seven years. If desired, donations in Frank’s name may be made to TPR.

Thank you also to friends and loved ones, near and far, for their kindness and support through this difficult time.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood,

And it made him feel so happy, and it made him feel so good.

And he sang from his heart, and he sang from his soul.

He did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.

(Mr. Tanner, Harry Chapin)

For all his life, Frank never liked to say the word goodbye, so Cheerio for now and see you next time, God willing.

What a wonderful man, we so enjoyed the laughter and music he brought to all of us for so many years.
A faithful member of our church, always a smile for everyone he met.
Rest in peace, we know there will be quite a few Irishmen in heaven
that will join him in song on St Paddys day.
Sending you all a big hug.

My sincere condolences. Frank was such a pleasant and talented gentleman. I loved to listen to he and his group play their Irish music with my own Irish background, being an O’Malley and now a McLenaghan. Thinking of you all and hoping your fond memories will bring you comfort at this difficult time.

The Family

I have to thank Mr. Scally for the Wonderful Memories. Quality Time spent with my Mom (whose Maiden Name was ‘McAndrew)’ & along with Friends & Loved Ones, enjoying St. Patty’s Day Festivities over the years, whether it be @ the Bellevue, The Encore Club, Holy Name Parish Hall, or elsewhere, alongside Mr. Glen Conrad, Mr. Merv Sullivan, Father O’Conner, & others. Each year was a GRAND Time that took many back to their Motherland &/or Heritage! His Musical Contributions will live on in the minds of many!

Soon he will be celebrating his 1st St. Patty’s Day up above with those who have preceded him.

This Heart-felt Obituary depicts Mr. Scally’s Life so very well! My love for Harry Chapin’s Music & these poignant Lyrics are …the ‘Icing on the Cake’!

Sending you and the kids condolences. I worked with you Theresa in the business office in the summer of 1983. I enjoyed my "mat leave" filling and got to know you. I will never forget you helping me move that summer, hard to believe it's over 40 years ago. Where did the time go? Today, I no longer live in K.L. but I never forgot you. Sending you love and prayers. Louise Fox

Theresa and Family

Sending you our deepest sympathy on the death of Frank, our dearly beloved uncle, the last of our once-so-many Scally uncles, coming as he did at the end of that dozen of Scally children. Even though he left home a long time ago he remained exactly like his siblings, the same easy laugh, good humour and engagement with people. So many fond memories of him from his holidays "home". He will be sadly missed, in many places. Slán Frank.

The Scally Family

I remember Mr & Mrs Scally as both his daughters went to school with 2 of my brothers and i attended the same schools as them also. They used to live across the tracks on Hillcrest when I lived in the Tweedsmuir units so I'd often see the girls going and coming from school. Sending my condolences to everyone and giving you all strength to get thru this RIP MR SCALLY

Offering our deepest sympathy,
Frank will always hold a special place in our hearts, his wonderful warm voice was a welcome blessing at our wedding, August of 1966 at Holy Name Church. During our visits back home over the years it was always so great to meet Frank and those twinkling Irish eyes which smiled, along with his special greetings.

Theresa Scally

There, my condolences to you and your family. I was so sorry to hear about Frank. He was a wonderful man. Theresa, I worked with you at the Kirkland & District Hospital from 1966 - 1970 and often wondered how you were. It was my first job coming out of K.L.C.V.I. I worked on billing and also after 2 yrs you trained me on the Business machine before we took over Barbara P.'s job. I married in May 1970 and moved to Sudbury with Murray. We now live in Ottawa and both Murray and I are enjoying our retirement along with our son and his family. We have 2 grandsons. How time flies huh? I often think about my days at K.L. Hospital where it all started - and where most of my siblings (10 kids) worked at one time.
I will keep you in my prayers.
Love, Diane Elyea (nee Talbot).
