HANRAHAN, Terence Timothy

1956 - 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of

Tim Hanrahan on January 23, 2019, at the age of 62. After a long battle with cancer, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.

He is predeceased by his daughter Celine as well as parents Audrey and Terence Hanrahan. He is survived by: daughters Annie (Darren McKiernan), Marta (Craig Marchand) and son Mason (Katie McMurchy, expecting granddaugther Sophie); sisters Sharon, Holly and Anne; brothers Tom and Ed; nephews Ruben, Ryan, Lee and Daniel; nieces Robyn, Cindy, Naomi; great-nephews and great-nieces Elise, Maryn, Megan, Liv, Yula, Hannah, Noah; beloved dog Keith as well as many loving cousins and friends.

A promising junior hockey player, Tim left the sport due to an injury and established a successful photography studio in Toronto. He later embarked on a second career as an arborist and has left the company in the hands of his son Mason. In his free time, he enjoyed blacksmithing and creating multi-media sculptures, which incorporated branches and other materials from his arboriculture business.

He wishes his family a long, harmonious and productive life together.

The celebration of life will be held at the COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS, at 95, Cité-des-Jeunes Bvld, in Gatineau (Hull sector), on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2 pm. The family will receive condolences as of 1:30 pm. Tim requested that all attendees wear plaid in any form.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Morgan, Dr. Lapointe and the many nurses and other staff who supported and cared for him until the end.

He encourages the bereaved to donate to the SPCA, the Ottawa Humane Society or any animal rescue foundation of their choosing.

Online condolences may be made at www.cfo.coop

Holly and Tim’s Family, I am sending my sincere sympathies to each of you. My memories of Tim are of a young teenager at CEC, Holly’s younger brother, absolutely gorgeous and with the most beautiful smile ever, smart, engaging and athletic, the perfect package and that’s how he will always remain for me. May the warm safety of your own memories comfort you in the time to come.

The Family

My sincerest condolences to all.
Focused, sincere, dedicated, easy going, and a bit on the wild side, were my first impressions of Tim when I first met him in his parent's home on Normandy Avenue. I experienced the early days of his photographic brilliance in his darkroom in the basement and still to this day am reminded of it through a picture he took of myself and my Irish setter running on the sands of low tide. The image still hangs on a wall 30+ years later. Our friendship was easily acquired, not only by common interests and our personalities, but by our respect of each other. Although our lives took us in different directions not long after the Truro days, it was as if nothing had changed when our paths occasionally crossed. Still the same personable Tim. A friend forever.

Dear Sharon, Holly and Anne,Tom, and Ed,
We were much saddened to hear of Tim's recent passing. Charlie and Cameron played a lot of hockey with Tim during our formative years. We played hockey, tennis, baseball, and many other sports with him over the years. He was a great guy and was always very pleasant to deal with whether playing sports or during our Jr. High and CEC days together. Please extend our condolences to Tim's children as well. My sincerest sympathies on the loss of your brother Tim. Sadly for me, my last conversation with him was at least 5 years ago. I cherish all of my memories of the good times we shared during our Ryerson years. He was bigger than life and always on board to have fun. At that time "Squeezebox" by the Who was the song we never missed dancing together if we were in the Ryerson pub at the same time. I still have that song on my exercise play list. It inspires me to "push" at little harder. I wish you all the best as you grieve and move forward with your lives as Tim would want you to do.

Tim Hanrahan

To Sharon, Holly, Anne, Tom, Ed and Tim’s children

I was deeply saddened to of heard of Tim’s recent passing. We had met so many years ago as kids and became good friends while attending Jr. High and later at CEC. We both enjoyed building and competing in model cars as well as in various sports. I recall the time Tim had taught me how to ride on the back wheel of my sister’s bike and not just in a straight line, oh no but around corners too. And who could ever forget those hot summer days when Tim and I would wash and wax his dad’s all black four-door Pontiac which would take hours. Tim’s mom Audrey would provide cold drinks while Tim’s dad Terry would follow up with a full inspection of our hard work. Afterwards I would be invited to go to their family cottage for a cool swim in the lake. And those are just some of the wonderful memories I have. So I will say a prayer for my friend Tim that you suffer no more and that you have found love, peace and happiness through our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

The Hanrahan Family

I knew Tim from his attending Depth and Growth groups that we ran at my home in Nepean for a few years back in the 1990s. He was one of the kindest and compassionate men that I have ever met. I remember the pain that he went through when his photography business became untenable because of the whole industry becoming digitized and too expensive to run on a small scale. I remember being at several wonderful parties up in the Gatineau Hills organized by him and his good friend, Jorge. Tim was a very pleasant and gentle Soul and he is very much missed by all of us still on this planet........
I hope you have been accepted into Heaven, Tim ! You deserve it. Your Forever Friend, Richard
