Toutes mes sympathies à toi Linda et Carolyn. Ont s'est connus sur rue Stevenson.
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Murchie announces his passing on June 25, 2025, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Sherbrooke, Quebec, at the age of 88.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Bob moved to Richmond, Quebec at an early age and later settled in Danville, where he built a life with his beloved wife of 66 years, Marilyn (née Greenlay); a union built on enduring love and mutual support. Together, they raised two daughters, Linda (the late Gordon Wilkins) and Carolin, who adored their father and cherished the deep bond they shared.
Bob took immense pride in his long career, working 48 years in finance at Johns Manville in Asbestos. Beyond his professional life, Bob was a pillar of the Danville community. He dedicated over 50 years of service to the Danville Protestant Cemetery, managing the finances and even digging graves—acts that reflected his humble generosity and sense of duty. Some of his happiest memories are of working on the farm in Trenholm as a teenager.
Bob’s passions were many. He was a devoted sports fan with a lifelong passion for watching the Montreal Canadiens and Formula 1 Grand Prix racing. A longtime member and supporter of the Danville Curling Club, he enjoyed both the camaraderie and competition of the sport. His love for animals was well known—Cocker Spaniels held a special place in his heart, and his home was always full of four-legged companions. He found joy in feeding the deer and birds in his backyard and made lasting memories camping with family and friends at Island Pond.
He is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn; daughters Linda and Carolin; grandchildren Gary (Julie), Karen, Christopher (Karine), Jeffrey, and Michael (Courtney); and great-grandchildren Cody, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Tyler, Shawn, Ethan, and Kaylee. He is also remembered by his sister Karen, sister-in-law Marion Greenlay (the late Carl), and many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his brother William and by his parents, Alexander Murchie and Alice Singleton.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Church in Danville, followed by a private interment at the Danville Protestant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danville Protestant Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
Bob will be remembered as an incredibly caring and loving husband and father, whose quiet kindness and steady presence touched many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and dedication.
