Curtis, Wayne

CURTIS, Wayne

1947 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Alexandre Bertrum James Curtis, who passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Ottawa, Ontario, on July 2, 2025, at the age of 78.

Wayne is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carmen. In the early days of their courtship, he would switch his bus route just to drive hers and spend a few extra moments together. The couple recently celebrated 32 years of marriage on June 5.

He will be deeply missed by his children Tammy (Steve), Tanya (Brad), Lisa (Marcel), Jeanne (Craig), Teena, and Wayne (Annie). A proud grandfather, he cherished his time with Amanda, Jessica (Steven), Erin (Christopher), Jamie, Elliot, Lily, Melissa, Leo, Coby, and Khaleece, as well as his great-grandchildren: Abby, Jaxson, Hudson, Levi, Octavia, Christopher, and Benjamin. He treasured every moment spent with his growing and deeply loved family.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Joyce, as well as his siblings Charlotte (Gerry), Kathryn (Tom), and Steve. He is survived by his brothers Larry and Paul (Nola) as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Wayne devoted 26 years of his life to serving the community as a bus driver with the City of Peterborough Transit. A committed and passionate advocate for workers' rights, Wayne served as Secretary/Treasurer of ATU Local 1320 from 1995 to 1998 before being elected President/Business Agent in 1998—a position he held with dedication until 2004. He was also a past member of the Peterborough Labour Council. Through these roles, he earned the respect and admiration of his peers and the broader community for his unwavering dedication and integrity.

We wish to thank the Bruyère Health Saint-Vincent Hospital, for their extraordinary care, kindness and support.

A private celebration of life for immediate family will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bruyère Health Saint-Vincent Hospital in Wayne’s honour.

Forever in our hearts—your journey may have ended, but your story lives on.
